How is mindfulness key to trauma work? January 18, 2019 by rosacshetty View this post on Instagram Specifically how is mindfulness key to trauma work? Because it helps clients develop “dual awareness.” What is Dual Awareness? This is the mental ability that lets us SIMULTANEOUSLY hold in mind more than one state of consciousness. Allows us to explore the past without risk of traumatization by keeping one “foot” in the present and one “foot” in the past. Staying PRESENT with the therapist while being connected to the traumatic memory. If a client can only stay present to the therapist then he/she is NOT processing traumatic memories (they are only “cognitively” sharing their story). If a client can only stay connected to the traumatic memory then this leads to dysregulation (hypo or hyper arousal) and dissociation. Which can lead to re-traumatization due to nervous system activation. Mindfulness-based Trauma Therapy models are: #EMDR, #SensorimotorPsychotherapy, #SomaticExperiencing, Internal Family Systems, hypnotic ego state therapy (by Dr. Janina Fisher) Art by @luna.lingua . . . . #innerchild #selflove #healing #selfcare #mentalhealth #spirituality #relationships #yoga #yogini #mindfulness #selfawareness #innerchildwork #awakening #healingjourney #complexptsd #holistic #higherconsciousness #cptsdrecovery #meditation #healyourself #ptsd #cptsd #health #traumahealing #complextrauma A post shared by Rosa Shetty, LCSW (@innerhealing4women) on Jan 16, 2019 at 4:17pm PST Share this:TwitterFacebookLike this:Like Loading...
